Maybe you’ve already seen it in your news feed, a friend sharing a link to a website claiming you’ll receive a free Starbucks coffee gift card by completing a couple of steps. One being a mandatory share on your Facebook wall, followed by a comment using the Facebook comment system.
Is this a scam? There’s a good chance. While the company may change, this sort of thing has been around for a while according to this Snopes post regarding Free Subway Gift Cards.
After doing a quick Google search, we couldn’t find anything to support this being legitimate site. It’s also a bit suspicious that the links to the privacy policy and contact us page are dead (don’t work). When a company that has the coin to giveaway a substantial amount of free product, they dot their i’s and cross their t’s.
It’s important to be aware of what’s legit when it comes to Facebook, because of its social nature, someone looking to do wrong can get things spread quickly. It doesn’t look like this is malicious, but anytime you put links out there you want to make sure they are legit.
If you’ve already shared a site like this, we highly recommend you delete the post and/or report it as spam. The sooner the better.
